Made in an old egg house in Indiana
Behind Velda Hostetler’s farmhouse near Shipshewana stands a little wooden building that once held eggs. For 57 years it has been her sewing room. It is where every one of these sets has been made – one at a time, at the 1978 Singer her late husband Dale bought at an estate auction the summer they married.
It started at the Christmas bazaar of her church, when Velda was fourteen. She sewed the big quilted totes. Her mother couldn’t bear to waste the leftover piece of the panel, so she turned it into a small zip pouch. The women at the bazaar wouldn’t take one without the other – and Velda has made them as a pair ever since.
On December 18, 2026, the egg house closes for good. The sets on this page are the last ones. Her grandchildren Kendra and Wade pack and ship every order.
