“Too pretty to pack away in January.”

— what a customer told Twila at her church Christmas bazaar, fourteen years ago

52years of quilting above the garage
~3,000baskets made since 2012
426left from the final run

Made by hand above a garage in Lititz, Pennsylvania

For fourteen Christmases, Twila Brubaker made these baskets for the people she knew — her family, her neighbors, the women from church, and friends of friends who asked twice. She never sold them at the bazaar and never advertised them. They traveled by word of mouth.

Every basket starts the same way: a heavy cotton-blend face fabric over a firm batted interior, run through her 1973 Pfaff in a meandering quilt stitch that wraps all the way around. Then the Christmas design goes on, piece by piece — the Santa’s beard, the snowman’s scarf, every holly leaf and every berry cut, layered and appliquéd by hand.

At the end of November 2026, Twila is closing her sewing room. The 426 baskets on this page are what’s left. Her grandkids Delaney and Silas pack and ship every order.

The five designs from the final collection

Santa

A waving Santa with a white quilted beard, red poinsettias, holly and gold stars all around.

Snowman

A smiling snowman in a black top hat and red knit scarf, with snowflakes, pinecones and poinsettias.

Christmas Tree

A full green tree with red bows, ornaments and a gold star, and a pile of wrapped presents underneath.

Reindeer

A proud reindeer with hanging ornaments in his antlers, framed by pine boughs, berries and pinecones.

Gingerbread

Two gingerbread people with candy canes, peppermints, a little tree and holly berries.

Six things that make it Twila’s

No. 01

Quilted all the way around

Cotton-blend face fabric over a batted interior, stitched in Twila’s meandering quilt pattern on every side — not a flat print on thin canvas.

No. 02

Appliquéd, not printed

Every Santa, snowman, reindeer and holly leaf is cut, layered and stitched on. You can run your fingers over the raised pieces. They won’t peel, crack or wash off.

No. 03

Stands on its own

No wire ring, no internal frame. The quilted walls hold the shape, whether the basket is empty or full to the brim with presents.

No. 04

Handles that hold

Doubled canvas handles, bartacked at the stress points — the one detail Twila has never changed in fifty years of finishing her work.

No. 05

Room for the whole season

At about 16″ across and 22″ deep, it takes a pile of wrapped presents, two or three throw blankets, or every stocking in the house.

No. 06

The last of them

426 baskets remain from Twila’s final run. The sewing room closes at the end of November. When these are gone, there will be no more.

How people use theirs

  • Wrapped presents under the tree
  • Throw blankets by the fireplace
  • Stockings on Christmas morning
  • A gift basket filled with cocoa and cookies
  • Kids’ toys in the family room
  • Guest-room towels over the holidays
  • Wrapping paper and ribbons

Most customers tell Twila the same thing: it was supposed to come out in December and go back in the closet in January. It never went back.

Questions people ask Delaney

Is it big enough for real presents?

Yes. At about 16″ across and 22″ tall, it fits a good pile of wrapped gifts — shoe boxes, books, sweaters, toys. Taller presents simply stand up out of the top.

Does it really stand up when it’s empty?

It does. The quilted, batted walls hold the round shape without a frame. It won’t fold over in the corner.

Which design should I pick?

Grandma’s pick is the Santa for a living room and the Snowman for a guest room. The Christmas Tree and Reindeer look beautiful next to a fireplace, and the Gingerbread is the favorite in kitchens and kids’ rooms.

When will it ship?

Within 2–3 business days of your order, with tracking. Delaney and Silas keep shipping after the sewing room closes, for as long as baskets are left.

Is this really the last of them?

Yes. Twila has no apprentice and isn’t passing the patterns on. There will be no reorders once these 426 are gone.

Twila’s 30-day money-back guarantee

“These baskets should only go home with people who’ll actually love having them there.” Put it next to your tree, by the fireplace or in the guest room and live with it for a while. If it doesn’t belong there, send it back within 30 days and get your money back. No questions asked — just email info@backroad-goods.com.

Care & use

Inside: wipe the lining with a damp cloth.

Outside: spot-clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let it air dry standing up. Please don’t put it in the dryer.

Between seasons: most people never put it away. If you do, store it upright in a dry closet so the quilted walls keep their shape.

The Final Series

Some things are made by one pair of hands, for decades, and then never again.

The Final Series is the last work of craftspeople who are putting down their tools. No factory, no successor, no second batch.

Just the final pieces from their workshops, each one shaped by a lifetime of getting it right.

When they're gone, they're gone.

What Twila's customers are saying

Customer photo of the quilted Christmas basket

I put the Santa one next to our tree the day it came and every present in the house ended up in it. It’s thick and properly quilted, nothing like the flimsy printed ones at the big stores. My grandson asked if Santa came early. It arrived in five days, packed beautifully.

I was a little nervous ordering online, but it’s even prettier in person. The snowman is raised up off the fabric and you can feel every stitch. It stands up straight on its own, even empty. It holds all our throw blankets by the fireplace now.

Bought the reindeer for myself and the gingerbread for my daughter’s first Christmas in her own house. She sent me a picture with it full of wrapped gifts and said it was the first thing that made the place feel like home.

The handles are strong and the stitching is so neat. I carried it full of presents up two flights of stairs to my sister’s and it didn’t sag at all. Everyone at dinner wanted to know where it came from.

I keep the gingerbread one in the front hall for the mail and the scarves, and honestly I don’t think it’s going back in the closet in January. It looks like it was made for the house. Shipping was quick and it came well wrapped.

I ordered two for gifts and kept a third. The quality is the real thing, the kind of handwork you just don’t see anymore. I’m so glad I found these before they were all gone.
