Rita Kisner, 74, has hand-painted Halloween glass for 55 years — first at a bench in the Ashlock Glass paint shop, then alone in her basement after the plant closed in 1994. These 431 lamps are the last of the glass she carried out of there.

Run your thumb across one of Rita's and you feel nothing at all . Just glass. The paint is on the inside, fired on — so the only thing your hand ever touches is the glass itself.
Every piece is painted from behind, through the opening, in reverse order — the last color you want the eye to see goes on first. It is slow, it is backwards, and it is why the design cannot scratch off.
The paint is kiln-fired into the surface instead of sitting on top of it. It does not peel, wash off or go dull — not after one season and not after twenty.
Real glass lets the light travel through every painted line. The colors glow from inside instead of sitting flat like printed film on acrylic.
Low voltage with an inline switch on the cable. It stays cool to the touch, so you can leave it glowing all evening without heating the glass.
The weight sits low in a solid cast base with an antique finish. It is heavier than you expect, and a knock on the shelf does not send it to the floor.

Every lamp is painted by hand, so line weight, brush texture and the depth of the color vary slightly from piece to piece. Small variations in the glass itself are original to the 1994 stock. No two are exactly alike — that is the brush and the glass, not a flaw.
