The Lizard Loom Weave
Three-layer cotton on a 1948 Dryad four-shaft loom inherited from Morwenna’s mother. Press it flat and it springs back into the whelk silhouette.
The Whelk Shell Silhouette
Woven off the same five-inch whelk her father brought up in a pot off Lizard Point in 1961. Every bag traced from that one shell since 1978.
The Hand-Strung Pearl Strap
134 freshwater pearls strung in the pattern of Jenifry Trewin’s 1938 wedding necklace. Pairs with a braided cotton top-handle — swap between the two on bronze clips.
The Cove-Cured Cotton
Twenty-four hours in a tub of Cadgwith seawater before weaving. Tighter fibres, far less fading, built to be carried year after year.
The Open-Top Architecture
No closure, deliberately. Fast in and out at a table, on the ferry, on a restaurant chair. You see the contents at a glance instead of rummaging.
The Cellar Loft Ledger
Hand-stamped number in the lining, entered in the leather ledger Morwenna started in 1978. This final batch is #2,108–#2,148.

About hand-made: Every bag is woven by Morwenna herself. Small differences between bags are not faults — they are the evidence of the hand that made them. Slight variation in weave density, pearl spacing or colour depth is exactly why this is not a factory product. Hand-wash cold, dry flat in the shade, store flat.

The maker keeps a small number finished and ready. Orders ship straight from the workshop within 3 business days, and you'll get a tracking number the moment it's on its way. If a batch sells out, the page will say so honestly — and you can join the waitlist for the next one.
What if it arrives damaged or I don't love it?
You have 60 days to change your mind — send it back for a full refund, no questions asked. And if anything ever fails on it, the Back Road Guarantee covers repairs or replacement for life, handled directly with the maker.
Is every piece really made by one person?
Yes. Every piece is made start to finish by one maker — cut, finished, signed, and wrapped by hand. That's why batches are small and why yours will carry a hand-written number.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Almost — but not perfectly, and that's the point. Natural materials vary in grain and tone, so every piece is one of a kind. What never varies is the craftsmanship behind it.
Is it a good gift?
It's our most-gifted item. Every order arrives hand-wrapped in kraft paper with twine and a signed note from the maker — no receipt in the box, so it ships straight to the lucky person.
