Hand-Cut In A Massachusetts Mill Workshop

Marguerite “Margie” Vance, 68, restored stained glass in 63 New England churches for 41 years. These are the last 409 pieces she will ever make.

“After 41 years, I am done. These are the last ones I will ever make. I would rather have 409 people switch one on than keep them in a box.”

— Margie Vance, Ipswich, Massachusetts

Why It Looks Different From The Ones In Stores
🛠The 1.5-Millimeter Seam

Copper foil, the Tiffany method, not heavy lead came. Every solder line is a millimeter and a half wide, so your eye reads glass instead of metal.

💎The 213-Piece Build

213 pieces of glass, 84 in the hat alone. The curve of the brim exists because 84 flat pieces sit at 84 different angles.

👀The Amber-Eye Rule

The eyes are the only transparent glass in the whole piece. Everything else is opalescent. That is why they light first and read across a dark room.

The Opalescent Read

Opalescent glass scatters light inside the sheet rather than firing it straight through. The body glows instead of glaring.

The Cold-Light Circuit

Heat is what loosens leaded glass over the years. A low-voltage USB bulb runs cool, so the seams stay tight season after season.

The Weighted Foot

A cast, ribbed base that carries the mass low. 213 pieces of glass sit high on this shape and it does not want to tip.

“Copper foil at a millimeter and a half is restoration-grade work and it is simply not what you find in seasonal decor. What matters more for a buyer is the cold bulb. I have taken apart leaded pieces that failed inside four seasons purely from heat cycling. Keep them cool and they outlive the person who bought them.”

What You Are Actually Getting
  • Real cut glass, not printed plastic. Hold it to a light and the colour has depth. A printed film goes flat and grey.
  • Assembled by one person. Every piece cut, foiled, soldered and patinated by Margie in her mill workshop.
  • Built to be switched on. USB, low voltage, cool to the touch, safe to leave running all evening.
  • Small on purpose. About the size of a hand, so it fits a sill, a shelf or a hall table.
  • No two are identical. Hand-cut glass varies in grain and tone from piece to piece.
30 Days To Change Your Mind

If it is not what you pictured, send it back within 30 days for a full refund. One email, no questions.

Please read before ordering: it is smaller than photos suggest

This is a hand-sized piece, roughly 6 inches tall, not a full table lamp. Photographs make it look larger than it is. Everything else about it is exactly as shown — but the scale surprises people, so it is worth knowing first.

Good Questions

Before You Order

When will my order ship?

The maker keeps a small number finished and ready. Orders ship straight from the workshop within 3 business days, and you'll get a tracking number the moment it's on its way. If a batch sells out, the page will say so honestly — and you can join the waitlist for the next one.

What if it arrives damaged or I don't love it?

You have 60 days to change your mind — send it back for a full refund, no questions asked. And if anything ever fails on it, the Back Road Guarantee covers repairs or replacement for life, handled directly with the maker.

Is every piece really made by one person?

Yes. Every piece is made start to finish by one maker — cut, finished, signed, and wrapped by hand. That's why batches are small and why yours will carry a hand-written number.

Will mine look exactly like the photos?

Almost — but not perfectly, and that's the point. Natural materials vary in grain and tone, so every piece is one of a kind. What never varies is the craftsmanship behind it.

Is it a good gift?

It's our most-gifted item. Every order arrives hand-wrapped in kraft paper with twine and a signed note from the maker — no receipt in the box, so it ships straight to the lucky person.

Trustpilot reviews

Excellent 4.8 / 5

  • Absolutely stunning quality!

The craftsmanship is unlike anything I've found online. Wish there was more in stock — grabbed the last one and couldn't be happier.

    Patricia H. Tennesse

  • The packaging alone made me smile

Arrived faster than expected and came with a handwritten note. In a world of Amazon boxes and bubble wrap, this felt like receiving a gift from a friend. That personal touch is everything.

    Candice M. Wyoming

  • This is what shopping should feel like

It really looked better than i thought. You can tell immediately that a real person made this with real care. Already ordered one as a gift.
