Each Lantern Witch starts as a flat sheet of steel. The silhouette is cut, the edges are filed by hand, and the bare-branch pattern in her skirt is pierced through the metal rather than printed on it. The hand-tinted amber panel goes in behind the skirt, then the antique patina is brushed on and wiped back by hand so it settles dark in the recesses and stays warm on the raised edges. Sealed, weighted, wired, tested. Sixty-two steps in all — which is why no two come out identical, and why the run is as small as it is.
