It is smaller than the photographs suggest: about 7 in (18 cm) tall and 3.1 in (8 cm) across the rotor. This is a windowsill and kitchen-table piece, not a centrepiece. We would rather say so here than have anyone surprised when the box arrives.
It will not turn with an LED or battery tealight. There is no motor inside — the rotor is driven by the warm air rising off a real flame. Use a standard tealight up to 1.6 in (4 cm) across and 2 in (5 cm) tall, set it in the glass cup, and give it about forty seconds to pick up.
Every rotor is set and balanced by hand, so blade angle and the hang of the figures vary very slightly from piece to piece. That variation is the reason it turns, not a defect.
